It's our first annual Mental Health America of Abilene (MHAA) Art Gala!

Mental Health America of Abilene Art Gala – art exhibition and fundraiser gala at Vagabond in historic downtown Abilene, Texas.

You are invited to attend our come and go gala and enjoy wine, exquisite hors d'oeuvres, and incredible art in historic downtown Abilene. Well-known artist Calina Mishay will share how she uses art to heal and grow through mental health challenges and even brings divided communities together. Art is a powerful medium. We will be showcasing incredible work created by talented local artists along with stories of how the art expresses the mental health journey.

Our goal is to raise funds to continue our crucial peer support recovery services for those who have severe mental illness in our community. With proper support, most people can learn to cope and minimize symptoms and live fuller, more productive and meaningful lives. We help people learn that recovery is possible. This exciting evening will showcase some of the best artists in the area. Talented local artists have loaned their work to our juried show and includes each piece's connection to mental health struggles and healing. Abilene mixed media artist, T.M.Gand, is curating the art installation. Net proceeds from art sales will go to the artist with 20% being donated to support MHAA's mission to provide leadership and support for hope, recovery, and mental wellness for all. A portion of total proceeds from the event will be sent to help with the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Houston through Mental Health America of Greater Houston.

By attending, you will learn ways you can make an impact in the mental health community. We will share what MHAA is up to, what we have accomplished in the last several years, what we hope to do in the future, and ways you can partner with us to make a lasting impact in our community and improve lives.

Event tickets include a glass of wine and hors 'doevres.

In her own words…

Your Story. My Passion.

I am a professional artist that, in the past, has done one-of-a-kind private commissions for individual collectors. Recently, I dove into the world of large street art murals. I have been told what differentiates me from some is that I enjoy working with the people and committees of cities to encompass what they love about THEIR city and what THEIR story is…I just help them tell it through my gifts.

I am a champion for the revitalization of small towns. I believe in inspiring others around me to empower and encourage them to do something bigger than themselves. Art is my passion but it is not my ultimate goal. My goal is to be remembered for caring about the people I meet, inspiring them to live the life of happiness they saw for themselves when they were small, encourage growth and calm fears, be bold with color, and bring even the most divided communities together through art. I have seen all of these things happen in the towns where we have finished street art and now I am passionate about spreading this dream and experience around the world.

I also have a Master's Degree with an extra 18-month post Graduate certification from Florida Tech in Applied Behavior Analysis. I am a BCBA and work with children with Autism and Behavioral issues.

Much Love,

SPECIAL GUEST: Calina Mishay, artist
